Port Austin is a beautiful area with many opportunities for outdoor recreation, including hiking. Hiking in the Port Austin area is a great way to enjoy the outdoors and experience the beauty of Michigan's natural landscapes. There are several year-round hiking trails in the area and a few also offer cross country ski trails in the Winter. Be sure to plan ahead and take the necessary precautions to ensure a safe and enjoyable hike.

Huron County Nature Center
The nature center’s trail system snakes atop dry, gently rolling dune ridges and down into the shallow wet swales. You keep your feet dry as the trails are lined with boardwalks, benches, bridges and viewing decks while one short loop is a paved handicapped-accessible trail
Hiking
Port Crescent State Park
Port Crescent State Park offers 3 hiking trails for visitors. The Dunes Nature Trail & Day Use Trail in the Day Use Park and the additional Steel Bridge Trailhead located between the Day Use Park and Campground.
Sleeper State Park
Sleeper State Park offers 4 hiking trails for visitors. Trailheads are located in the campground, but Day Use visitors can access them on State Park Road near the campground headquarters.
Sand Point Nature Preserve
Approximately 220 acres, and includes 5 miles of well established trails with an all-new wayfinding signage program.
Port Austin Breakwall
Access the breakwall from Waterfront Park in Downtown Port Austin & walk out to dramatic views of Lake Huron, including amazing sunrises and sunsets.
Kernan Memorial Nature Sanctuary
Off the beaten path, the Nature Sanctuary offers a unique experience for those who want to get away from the crowds.
Huron County Nature Center
The Nature Center's geography of sand ridges and shallow swales is a haven not only for native Michigan species, but for Michigan nature lovers. Enjoy a walk along one of the well kept trails of the Nature Center.
